Kate Lipson is an emerging artist who first took to glassmaking at Manchester School of Art. Growing up in rural Cheshire, Kate has always been surrounded by the natural environment, which is now translated through to her delicate and organic glass work. Her career in glass artistry began when Kate was first introduced to hot glass, she was taken by the dramatic qualities of the material, and the thrilling process of working with it.
Her glassblowing practice is a beautiful exploration of nature’s subtle details and intricacies, translating organic rhythms into delicate, tactile forms. Her work captures the essence of growth and transformation through fluid shapes, layered textures, and evolving colour palettes, reflecting the natural phenomena which inspire her.
Often incorporating recycled glass into her work, Kate embraces serendipitous qualities and organic imperfections which come with the sustainable practice of upcycling materials. The embrace of unpredictability becomes a metaphor for growth and transformation as it mirrors the imperfections of nature itself, reinforcing the connection between her art and the natural world.
